A Hilltop View Of Paso Robles from Wine Country

Calcareous Winery View, © Barbara Radisavljevic
One of the most beautiful views in Paso Robles is from Calcareous Winery high on the top of a hill above Paso Robles. To get there from downtown you take Spring Street to 6th Street, make a short jog right on Olive, and then take Pacific until it ends into Peachy Canyon Road. Turn right and a few minutes and hairpin curves later, you will start seeing signs that Calcareous is only one mile ahead. You will then see a sign telling you to turn right into the next exit. You have arrived -- almost. You still need to get up to the top of the hill. And that's when you will see the view above.

It's no surprise that when I visited last week, several people were sitting at these tables, drinking their wine and enjoying these views. I was walking around taking pictures and talking to those serving wine

. I had been surprised to see so much activity in the winery building at this time of year, so I asked about it. I was told they were planting new vineyards, and they confirmed that they were also laying irrigation pipes for a new vineyard below. See more about the new Calcareous vineyards here.

The last thing I saw before starting down the hill was this memorial to the winery's founder. Click on any photo to enlarge it.
