Day is Dying in the West

Day is Dying in the West
Sometimes I chase sunsets and they don't turn out to be what I was hoping for because any clouds present during the day have disappeared. I wasn't chasing this sunset. I almost missed it. I was actually taking the trash to the recycling container and that sunset seemed to suddenly appear. It's been a peaceful day, and this sunset was a fitting way to bring it to a close.

In the words of an old hymn by William F. Sherman:

Day is dying in the west,
Heav'n is touching earth with rest;
Wait and worship while the night
Sets her evening lamps alight
Through all the sky.

While the deep'ning shadows fall,
Heart of Love, enfolding all,
Through the glory and the grace
Of the stars that veil Thy face,
Our hearts ascend.

Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God of Hosts!
Heav'n and earth are full of Thee!
Heav'n and earth are praising Thee,
O Lord , Most High!
