Burned Out!

California is Still Burning, but I'm Burned Out

I pray for the firemen and my friends too close to the fires for comfort. Some have had to evacuate but were able to return home. I've only had one fire get close enough for me to see from my yard this year, but it was minor, by the freeway, and put out before it could spread. Someone was dragging a chain and it sent sparks to the dry grass beside the freeway. It's good when a fire burns out or is put out.

I'm Burned Out

It's not so good when I burn out. There's simply too much going on here to pretend I can do it all. I'm remembering all the reasons I told myself not to sign up for another blogging challenge, but my self didn't listen. So here I am trying to do more than I can handle again. Tonight I'm going to revert to the blog requirement for City Daily Photo Bloggers. Post at least one photo from my city of Paso Robles.

Were I to try to do another post on an artist while in this burn-out-state it would not be fair to him. He's an artist I want to do a good job for. So I'll post another photo of day dying last night at Larry Moore Park. I took a much needed walk there last night to energize myself. I left during early dusk. I ended the walk when the sun was almost down. I took this photo near the end of the walk. I'm looking toward where the Salinas River would be if there were any water in it.

Burned Out! A Bad Case of Writer Burn-out

Good night, or good morning, depending upon where you are in the world today.

When is the last time you felt burned out?

Sky Photos from Charolais Corridor Trail at Dusk

Back on the Charolais Corridor Trail for a Photo Walk

Life has prevented me from doing much walking in these past few months, but tonight I couldn't stand being confined and so I walked. I drove to the trailhead of the Charolais Corridor Trail across from Larry Moore Park in Paso Robles, camera in hand, as the sun was beginning to set. The weather was just right for a walk.

Photos of The Sky from the Trail

I will show these sky photos in the order in which I took them so you can imagine you are walking with me. All photos, watermarked or not, are my intellectual property and may not be used without my written permission.

As I started my walk along the trail, a solid band of clouds was just in front of me above the treetops. As you will see later, the color deepened as the sun got lower and disappeared.

As you look at these photos you will notice I love tree silhouettes against the sky, as in the photo below.

I also like unusual cloud formations like this one. I saw it from many different angles as I walked. It was always in front of me or off to the right of the trail. Here it appears to be disappearing into the oaks below it.

The trail runs between two housing areas: Riverbank on the north side and the rural properties, many of them small farms, that face onto Oak Lane on the south side. The palm is in one of the yards in the Riverbank tract.

I was not alone on the trail tonight. Two families passed me with their dogs. I thought the boy was going to have to carry the little black dog. It was stubbornly refusing to keep walking. Finally, it decided to follow, but only after much urging.

These large trees are on the side where the small farms are. I love their silhouettes as the sky darkens.

This is the same band of clouds I showed you earlier, but now some time has passed. Both its color and shape have changed a bit.

There are many more pictures I could have shown you -- over a hundred -- but this is enough to give you an idea of what you missed. This last photo was taken after I returned to the entrance. The trees are on the end of Riverbank Lane, near where I parked. If you live in Paso Robles and haven't walked this trail yet, it's very manageable -- even for those with disabilities. It's mostly level, and you can see it is paved with concrete. Walkers do need to watch out for cyclists, though. I often encounter them here.

Where Did This Day Go?

The Day Has Disappeared

I don't know where it went. I know where the sun went, but my time seems to have just disappeared with it.

Where Did This Day Go?

What Happened During Daylight?

I slept much too late and had barely finished breakfast by noon. The rain kept coming down, and that seemed to interfere with my efficiency. I had only gotten through a bit of my email when Hubby came in with a lot of online bill paying he wanted me to do. That seemed to take forever.

By that time the rain had stopped and I was able to take a short walk to the mailbox without getting wet. Got to wave to a neighbor I met on the way who was also enjoying the bit of sun.

By the time Hubby left on business it was time for dinner and I watched TV for an hour while I ate.  Right after the show the sun was almost down and I took these photos. Then I came back to attack the email.

Where Did This Day Go?

Three hours later I'm still trying to keep up with email and social media and online groups. Looks like another late night. I need a No Interruptions Day tomorrow, but I can't remember the last time I had one.

What effect does a rainy day have on you?

The Sky after Monday's Rain

The heavens declare the glory of God. These photos I took as the sun was setting yesterday display some of that glory. There's not much I can add to that.

Late Friday Afternoon Walk through Paso Robles City Park

I spent some time at Studios on the Park Friday afternoon to preview the SoundScapes exhibit so I could  share it with you. It was overwhelming and I still need to digest it. Be sure to go  see it. Tonight between 6 and 9 would be a great time to go because there will be music, wine, and refreshments, and most artists will probably be there to talk to.

I  decided to walk around the park before going back to my car, since I'm in need of exercise and it was still light enough to  get interesting photos -- way too many for one post.

First I wanted to get a view of 12th Street . This is part of the block between Pine and Park. You will notice the construction sign warning that the sidewalk ahead is closed. They are tearing out much of the park near the 12th Street entrance. More about that in future posts.

In the photo below we are looking across the park toward Powell's Candy Store near the pine and the palm trees. You can click the photo to enlarge it for a better look. You can barely see Park Cinemas in the center back behind the shorter palms. Notice how tall the trees are compared to the buildings, many of which are two story.

As we walk past the old Carnegie Library, now the home of the Historical Society and Museum, you can see part of the construction area. It extends through the center of the park from the 12th Street entrance all the way to this oak tree's fence.

When I was ready  to go back to my car the sun was already low in the sky, so I was able to get this silhouette of the Spring Street skyline.

I hope you enjoyed walking through the park with me late on this Friday afternoon. We will be taking a closer look at some of the park's trees in future posts. And I promise we will also see a lot more art this month.

Hovering Cloud at Sundown - Sky Photos January 2, 2016

When I walked outside tonight I had to go back in for my camera. I wanted to follow the setting sun in all directions. This hovering cloud was oddly shaped and  its appearance kept changing as I looked at it from different directions.

As I looked at my uploaded sky photos, I was asking myself the same questions the optometrist does when
he shows me different views of the eye chart. "Which is best, A or B?" I kept comparing the photos on two different monitors to try to pick the best ones

I'm still not sure I've made the right selections, but you'll never know, since you can't see them all.  It's hard to choose the very best when I can't see them all at once.

In this post I will show you the shots of the hovering cloud in the order I took the Pictures so that you can see the changes in the sky as the minutes go by. The top picture was taken looking west from my yard. The palm trees live across the street from my house. This second photo, just above, was taken a couple of minutes after the first photo.

I went in the house for a few minutes to check something on the stove and then came back to take this last shot you see below. By this time the cloud had moved so that I had to look west to see it -- just past my rooftop. All  these shots were taken in a time frame of about fifteen minutes. Sunsets wait for no photographer.

Tomorrow I  will share the earlier shots to the west before this cloud moved in to take the place of the setting sun. There were just too many sky photos to put into one post.

Do you enjoy watching the the sky change at sunset and sundown?

Did You Look Up at the Sky Tonight?

I went out to take the trash to the can tonight, and I could not help noticing that the sky was amazing. Did you see it right as the sun had gone down? I live on a corner. As I looked up across my street to the left of the oak tree, this was my view of the sky. The colored clouds seemed to go on forever as they moved toward me.

Then I turned and looked up at the sky view across the street to my right. Here the sky was layered in colors. I called Hubby out to see it, but he had a call from nature in a different direction. When he came out three minutes later, all the colors were gone from the clouds.

Some of the most beautiful things are transitory and gone minutes after they appear. Rainbows and sunsets are two of them. Can you think of others?

This is another beautiful sunset I saw, and I put it on a pillow and some other Zazzle products so  it couldn't completely disappear. I took the picture on Bethel Road in front of the Castoro Cellars Vineyard on a late afternoon.

Sky Light and Christmas Lights

Vine Street Just Before Sunset

Just as the light was being chased out of the sky tonight, I was driving along Vine Street looking for some of my favorite locations in the Vine Street Victorian Showcase. I won't be able to attend the actual event this year since walking is hard right now. I wanted to see the lights early so I wouldn't miss everything. I was actually a bit too early, since not everyone has gotten their home decorated yet. One house I  passed that was ready for Saturday night was this one Scrooge used to  rant from until a couple of years ago.

The Sky Show

I had parked in front of this house,  but I decided to photograph some other houses before driving away. When I  returned to the car, the sun was almost down, and I noticed the ornamental bird on top of the house. I decided to photograph it in the setting sun.

After taking many more photos, I headed home, where I noticed my neighbor across the street had his decorations lighted. The sun was gone, but the sky still showed enough color to make me want to take this last photo.

Which lights do you like best? The ones on the houses or the ones in the sky?

The Sun Has Gone to Bed and So Must I

A Paso Robles Sunset in Winter, © B. Radisavljevic

Yes. It's a cop-out. I'm just too tired to write anymore tonight and I usually post at midnight. The sun is going to bed earlier these nights, and I begin to feel sleepy earlier, too. It's supposed to get down to almost freezing tonight for the first time this season.  I'm bundled up and the cold and dark combine to tempt me under the covers.

Do the time change and cold make you want to go to bed earlier, too?

If you're sleepy when you read this, take a catnap, or, if it's night for you, head for your pillow. It's flu season, and it doesn't pay to get too  tired.

Goodnight.
