Photo Journal of an Atypical Day of Art, Nature, Dogs, and an Accident Scene

An Accident at Kennedy Fitness Paso Adventure

I'd been feeling guilty about not using my gym membership much this month, so I decided to go today. I had two other reasons for going, too. First, I wanted an excuse to finish a book I was reading, and I could do that riding the stationary bike. Second, I knew two of my favorite photographers had their work on display and I wanted photos to share with you.

As I drove into the parking lot, I saw the scene above. I found a place to park, and then went in, hoping no one had had a stroke or heart attack. Lots of us senior citizens exercise here.

When I got inside I learned that a woman had fallen from the rock climbing wall. I saw her on a gurney just under the wall and the paramedics were moving her leg. I hope she is not too badly hurt, and will heal without too much pain or permanent damage. I have never dared to take up rock climbing. I'll stick to riding that bike and walking.

The Photo Exhibit

The photographers with work currently on display on the walls at Kennedy Club are Dean Crawford Jr. and Deb Hofstetter, both of whom I saw in their studio Saturday night at Art after Dark. These photos and paintings are all part of the display.

I'll let you guess who did each of these. If you belong to the Kennedy Club, come in to see if you guessed correctly.

A Walk at Larry Moore Park

The Dogs

I wanted to get some sunset photos again tonight, so I set off for the park as the time drew near. I was not too thrilled when these two dogs who should have been on leashes almost knocked me down multiple times. Their owners had no reason to give why they were loose, but it didn't seem to bother them to be violating the law as long as no one was there to enforce it.

The Trees

On the way to the park I passed the lemon tree I had seen packed with fruit in December. I wish now I'd been brave enough to knock on the door of its owner and ask if he wanted to sell any of the beautiful lemons. It looks as though the frost got them instead.

As I walked by this Bradford pear tree, I could see it was budding already. I expect to see it bloom within a week or two in this warm weather.

As I passed this pepper tree with its dried fruits, I could not help but notice the contrast with the bright colors the peppers trees had displayed in autumn.  Winter in the park is drab in comparison.

The Sky

When I started my walk the sun had just disappeared below the hills, but it was still golden.

After a few minutes it became more pink.

Pink turned toward orange a few minutes later.

In no time the contrails had combined and turned bright orange.

Although life seems pretty routine most days, this one stands out as unique this week. Maybe I should get out of the house more often.

January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day

Dog Feeling Neglected on Christmas, © B. Radisavljevic
I don't personally have any pets to dress up, but I know people who dress their pets. This dog belongs to one of them. The photo was taken one Christmas day. The dog is not happy at having a gate between her and the people in the next room celebrating, and she is sulking, even  though she's all dressed up for Christmas.

Evidently dogs don't mind being dressed up, especially when it's cold. I don't know if they care as much about what they are wearing as their people do. I have too much respect for a cat's dignity to even think of dressing a cat up. I have never personally known a dressed up cat. Nevertheless, January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day, so I will help you find something new for your pet to wear. I assume you've already dressed up your pet for today.

The introductory photo is not actually the photo I had planned to use today. That photo is hiding among the thousands on my Apple and I have looked through hundreds of files for it unsuccessfully. I can't remember what I named it, and after hours of looking for it,  I gave up. I'll probably find it next week. If I ever find it I'll add it to this post. Have you ever lost a photo in the bowels of your computer?

Now back to dressing up your dog. I usually see dogs in three places. First there are the two that share our Templeton property, but I've never seen them dressed up. One of them came as a puppy. I'd like to dress her in this doggy T-shirt. Why? Because every time I come to my Templeton home unexpectedly she jumps on me and almost knocks me down. She definitely has issues, even though she's cute.

I think this white tee with black text would be just right to show off that beautiful black coat of hers.

I see a variety of dog breeds when I walk at Larry Moore Park -- big dogs and tiny dogs. I've never seen any of them dressed. I rarely get a close enough look at them to suggest what they should wear, since they are often speeding by me. That's why  they are blurry. If you're looking for a humorous T-shirt for a pet of your whom you know well enough to dress appropriately, Zazzle has lots of them to choose from or you can even make your own. Just click the link or any product and you can easily  change the color or text on the shirt.

The dogs I see most often up close are the winery dogs. I see these two at Doce Robles quite often. I know they take care of security there. One is much younger than the other and was a puppy when I took the picture. Maybe this T-shirt would be appropriate for one or both of them.

Larry Moore Park is Going to the Dogs

At one time the powers that be talked about making Larry Moore Park a dog park. I think people objected, since it never happened, but I've never been there when I didn't see a lot of people walking their dogs. Most clean up after them, but not everyone does. It's not a good idea to walk off the paths.

Most dog owners are good about walking their dogs on leashes, but not all.

What's Wrong with Loitering in City Park?

Rules - Paso Robles City Park
Early this evening I decided to take a short walk through the downtown City Park in Paso Robles. As I was walking thorough the park, I saw the sign I have pictured here. Since this a park where people walk a lot on the walkways, I can understand why the rules state that skateboarding and skates are forbidden. We have another park for skateboarders and skaters. Most of the other rules also make sense. But at least two of the rules were broken while I was at the park  today, and I can't imagine anyone enforcing them.

The second rule is "No dogs allowed." Good luck with that. I understand the reason for the rule, but maybe it would be  better to make the rule against not cleaning up after your dog. Many people walk just in order to walk their dogs. Since the city has forbidden dogs, it doesn't have the bags in this park to clean up after dogs like many other parks do. This is what I saw this afternoon. Seems pretty innocent to me. (I took this with a zoom, so the Paso Robles Inn across Spring Street looks much closer than it really is.)

Then there is the rule about no loitering. This one really threw me. I thought that's what parks were for. People like to hang around and talk to their friends, picnic, sleep under trees, and any number of harmless activities that could be called loitering.

The only reason I see for this rule is so that police can ask rowdy groups or large groups that look like they might be plotting mischief to leave. I would think if someone is causing a disturbance or committing a crime, that would be reason enough to remove them. I'm guessing that this is one of those rules enforced very selectively to try to prevent trouble that may be brewing before a law is broken.
