January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day

Dog Feeling Neglected on Christmas, © B. Radisavljevic
I don't personally have any pets to dress up, but I know people who dress their pets. This dog belongs to one of them. The photo was taken one Christmas day. The dog is not happy at having a gate between her and the people in the next room celebrating, and she is sulking, even  though she's all dressed up for Christmas.

Evidently dogs don't mind being dressed up, especially when it's cold. I don't know if they care as much about what they are wearing as their people do. I have too much respect for a cat's dignity to even think of dressing a cat up. I have never personally known a dressed up cat. Nevertheless, January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day, so I will help you find something new for your pet to wear. I assume you've already dressed up your pet for today.

The introductory photo is not actually the photo I had planned to use today. That photo is hiding among the thousands on my Apple and I have looked through hundreds of files for it unsuccessfully. I can't remember what I named it, and after hours of looking for it,  I gave up. I'll probably find it next week. If I ever find it I'll add it to this post. Have you ever lost a photo in the bowels of your computer?

Now back to dressing up your dog. I usually see dogs in three places. First there are the two that share our Templeton property, but I've never seen them dressed up. One of them came as a puppy. I'd like to dress her in this doggy T-shirt. Why? Because every time I come to my Templeton home unexpectedly she jumps on me and almost knocks me down. She definitely has issues, even though she's cute.

I think this white tee with black text would be just right to show off that beautiful black coat of hers.

Dogs Running in Salinas River Bed

I see a variety of dog breeds when I walk at Larry Moore Park -- big dogs and tiny dogs. I've never seen any of them dressed. I rarely get a close enough look at them to suggest what they should wear, since they are often speeding by me. That's why  they are blurry. If you're looking for a humorous T-shirt for a pet of your whom you know well enough to dress appropriately, Zazzle has lots of them to choose from or you can even make your own. Just click the link or any product and you can easily  change the color or text on the shirt.

Winery Dogs at Doce Robles Winery

The dogs I see most often up close are the winery dogs. I see these two at Doce Robles quite often. I know they take care of security there. One is much younger than the other and was a puppy when I took the picture. Maybe this T-shirt would be appropriate for one or both of them.

  1. It would be fun to dress up a pet for 'Dress up your Pet Day'. Love all these unusual and funny holidays. My brother's Boston Terrier rescue won't allow being 'dressed up', even though her 'mom' would love to do so. :)

    1. I have never been one to try to make animals seem more human, since it seems to detract from their dogginess. I can understand why a dog might resist.

  2. It is amusing to have a "Dress up your pet day", but my dogs would not be amused. The way they dash through the fields and forest, they'd probably get hung up on something. A bandana around their necks is about all we do to be festive.

    1. I'm still not sold on dressing animals unless they have little fur and would get cold. Did you see the way the winery dogs were going at it? I can just imagine the shape their "clothes" would be in if someone had dressed them.

  3. roflol! I love the idea, but it would take 3 people to dress up my dogs. Two to hold them, one to administer the anesthesia and all three of us working fast to dress them before they wake up.

    1. Your dogs sound like they appreciate their dogginess and don't want to adopt human customs. They are probably happy with the coats God gave them.

    1. I especially liked that doggie tee, since I've known a lot of dogs who have issues. I also know people who should give fair warning by wearing such a shirt.
