Ghosts and their Friends Who Lurk to Scare Visitors On Halloween

What Haunts These Yards?

This is the time of year I'm glad I walk to the neighborhood mailbox during daylight. All the ghosts and other scary things I pass on the way are less intimidating in the light. I will show you some of them. By the time I walk home the sun is slowly fading. Below you see the ghosts who live across the street from me.

As you can see above, trees seem to attract a lot of ghosts. Even tiny ones. I never would have found this one had I not been trying to take pictures of the fruits of the sycamore tree. There's one of those right behind the ghost's head.

These ghosts are ready to scare little treat-or-treaters from the air.

Scared yet? I didn't think so. If you want to get scared, read this book by my friend Lori Moore. She tells some very chilling ghost stories in this book. Just right to read on a dark night in a haunted house. Or any night when you don't mind a few shivers down your spine. You can even read the Kindle verson in the dark.

Get yourself some spooky classical music to listen to while you read. Or just get it to play while the spooks approach your home on Halloween.

Witches, Etc.

I guess you can't have a Halloween night without a few witches flying around or hanging on trees, like this one. And one also would expect to see Jack-o-Lanterns and skeletons on the scene. Most of the grave that have sprung up in front yards aren't on my block. Thank goodness! They remind me I'm getting old.

Enjoy your Halloween, and be safe. Don't let the ghosts or anything else spoil your evening. And don't eat all the candy your kids bring home.

More Ghosts from Halloweens Past

Ghostly Halloween Decorations

In a previous post I showed you some houses which had dressed up their yards for Halloween with exterior decorations.  Tonight, in the spirit of the quickly approaching holiday, I will show you more. This house really likes skeletons, though it appears ghosts are also welcome.

Spider Decorations

This house also seems to attract some creepy spiders. Young trick-or-treaters better be careful not to get caught in those spider webs. But once past the webs, they will still face the huge black spider and the skeleton who guards the door. I don't think I'd be brave enough to approach that door if I were five years old.

Scare Your Visitors When You Open the Door

When I was in elementary school my mom loved Halloween. She used to put a jack-o-lantern head on a floor lamp, wrap a sheet around the rest of it, and keep it just inside the door. When she opened the door, it would be dark except for that ghost with the evil pumpkin head. I believe we also had creepy music in the background. It did scare quite a few of the youngest candy beggars. Fortunately, it wasn't as creepy as this decoration.

How do your very young children react when they see these kinds of scary sights?

Ghosts of Paso Robles Halloweens Past

Yards Decorated for Halloween in Paso Robles

My neighbors in the Riverbank tract really like to decorate their yards for holidays. As I was looking at my picture files from past years, I came across these creatively decorated yards. I thought I'd share them with you.

Graveyards are a popular theme, as are jack-o-lanterns, of course. And it's hard to escape the ghosts.

There are also plenty of witches. I liked this one climbing a tree.

One of my favorite ghosts is hiding in the flowers. This is one of my  favorite houses in the neighborhood all year round because of the wonderful flowers. Something is always in bloom. These are, of course, October flowers.

There's still time to decorate your yard for Halloween.
