The Rain Woke My Roses Up

Every year I look forward to having the roses back in bloom after their winter dormancy. It seems only a couple of weeks ago the gardener finished pruning them, but they are now not only leafing out, but blooming. It rained much of yesterday and last night, and when I took this picture this afternoon, the sky was blue with only fluffy white clouds in the east. The weather forecast says it will begin raining again at midnight and continue to rain for four hours. I hope that's accurate, because I love listening to the rain as I'm falling asleep. Meanwhile, I'm happy the rain woke my roses up.

So far only a few of my roses are awake. The pink ones are all climbing Cecile Brunner roses, my mother's favorite. It was Mom that had this garden planted when she lived here. Below is a single rosebud.

Only one of the red roses has a full bloom yet. I didn't catch it when it was young and fresh, but it's still intact, in spite of all the rain.

A single red rosebud from another bush reaches for the sky.

Share my roses with someone you love. Mother's Day is coming in only a few weeks. These roses won't wilt.
