Construction for New Section Of Divided Highway on 46
On our way to Madera last week (See photos of first leg of trip from Hwy 46 to 41 to intersection of 41 and 99), we encountered some construction as we approached the rest stop in Shandon. It appears they are finally working on another section of divided highway in this dangerous area.

Here's the view as we rounded the curve. I was taking all the photos from the moving car through the windows. We are driving east in these photos.

Since it was about 12:45 on a Wednesday afternoon, the construction didn't slow traffic much.

The Shandon Rest Area
The rest area was not too crowded when we stopped, and everything was clean inside.

The surrounding area was greening up a bit after the recent rains, so I took a few pictures.

This is the side of the rest area facing toward Hwy 46. You can see some of the construction signs across the highway.

When we left the rest area, I was glad we were going to turn right. In this next photo, we are heading toward the exit to get back on 46. Unfortunately, the trailer in front of us was also turning right. It blocked the view in front of me making it harder to take pictures until we could pass it.
